POSTAAL DARKNESS

If you’ve been watching the French-English duo Postaal since the early days, then you’ll know that with every great track there’s a great video to go along with it. The more perceptive watcher may also notice a running theme with the videos - couples. There’s an unspoken connection between each pair of characters that we’ve seen in 2015’s ‘(Taking My) Freedom’, 2017’s ‘Say’ and this year’s newest release ‘Darkness’. Set in a run-down council estate, scenes of street fights are contrasted against ones of the protagonist's relationship - representing the darkness and the light of this individual’s restless existence. Speaking on the track, Postaal explain that "Darkness is about the inner research for light in the darkest of places. It is based upon this light we find in our deepest moments." Throughout the track, the band’s musical influences are presented in a modern light - from Brit Dennis’ days working in a record store during UK Garage’s heyday to Parisian Hervé’s youth surrounded by 90s French house. They both share a heritage of eclectic records thanks to Dennis’ father and Hervé’s brother who showed them a musical world beyond their immediate present. This mix of past and present has served the pair well, who instil this bilateral approach into tracks like ‘Darkness’. What's more, this brand new single also comes with the news that their debut album is set for release in March 2018. -HT
